Liability Coverages
General Liability: A must for all camps, general liability insurance protects you if you are sued by someone who claims that you caused their physical injury or damaged their property. The Counselor offers limits up to $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate. (Per occurrence is the maximum amount paid on a covered individual claim; aggregate is the maximum amount paid on all covered claims combined, within the policy period.)
Sexual Abuse and Molestation Liability: The Counselor offers this hard-to-find, critical coverage for situations that can be explosive. The Counselor's professional, compassionate claims associates are experts at successfully resolving sensitive claims involving children, and will handle your claim with discretion and tact.
Directors' and Officers' Liability (Nonprofit camps only): This coverage pays the costs to defend your nonprofit camp's directors or board members if they are sued for decisions they've made.
Child Abduction Liability: If a child is kidnapped from camp, The Counselor pays expenses the camp and the child's parents incur to recover the child, up to the policy limit.
Professional Liability: Allows staff, doctors, nurses, and EMTs to perform their professional duties without fear of devastating lawsuits, defense costs, and judgments. Without it, you could end up footing the bill alone.
Special Events: This coverage protects you from liability during field trips, fund-raisers, and other special events. You don't need to buy a separate policy for most special events.
Saddle Animal Liability: If your camp has a horseback riding program, this coverage is a must.
Swimming Pools, Watercraft Liability: Protects campers and staff if water-related accidents occur.
Volunteers as Additional Insureds: When your camp uses volunteers, they're acting on your behalf. This coverage defends their unintentional negligent acts as it defends your own.
Umbrella Liability: Provides extra protection for catastrophic events. Umbrella liability goes into effect after you've exceeded the limits of your general or auto liability insurance. Limits up to $10 million are available.

Other Coverages
Accident Medical: This coverage pays campers' medical bills (up to the policy limit) if they are injured at camp and have no insurance of their own, or their bills exceed what their insurance pays. You can think of accident medical insurance as a goodwill gesture--by paying a camper's medical bills now, you may be able to avoid a lawsuit later.
Automobile: Covers owned, leased, non-owned, and hired vehicles, such as cars, vans, pickups, and buses used at your camp.
Business Income: If your camp is temporarily closed due to a covered loss (fire, lightning, windstorm), business income insurance covers your lost income and continuing expenses.
Markel Basic Health Insurance: Perfect for small camps that can't afford traditional comprehensive major medical, Markel Basic Health insurance pays limited benefits directly to insureds for the most common types of services, such as doctor's office visits and diagnostic tests. Note that this is not major medical insurance.
